[ding–uh s]
noun, plural dinguses. Informal.
A gadget, device, or object whose name is unknown or forgotten.
I may be a Dingus—Tommy Dingus, to be exact—but I make it a point to be remembered.
Throughout my career, I’ve found that I’m good at many things, but I’m great at creating visual media. For over a decade, I’ve worked in the custom publishing industry, where I conceptualize, design, dreamboard and produce art, content, and stories for a variety of clients. I work in both print and digital, and I know how to use the tools of the trade, including the Adobe Creative Suite and several Content Management systems, such as Drupal and WordPress. I’ve even taught myself HTML. I’ve also picked up knowledge of photo editing, ad trafficking, and other skills essential to producing a finished product.
It’s been amazing to see something I’ve created get as much meaningful attention in today’s technology-obsessed society (especially when it’s something I’ve created in print, the so-called dead medium). I consider myself lucky to have worked on several philanthropic, medical and educational publications. They’ve allowed me to bring knowledge and resources to the people who need it most. The work I’ve produced has been attractive and fun to read—and has returned results. I can’t help but read what I’m working on, so I’ve learned a bit about different topics I never thought I would have, from jewelry to highway engineering to insurance to optometry.
Outside of work, I hone my people skills by coaching my youth dive club. It takes a lot of patience and encouragement to convince a petrified child to heave their tiny frame backward off of a diving board three meters up in the air. I also keep my creativity flowing by photographing diving and musical concerts. You can see some of those photographs on my social media pages here.
*Yes, that’s really my last name.
